Madea's Big Fat Stereotypical not so funny predictable blah blah blah

Before I hear it let me just state that I AM NOT A HATER! I have nothing against Tyler Perry personally. He has done nothing to me and for all I know he could be one of the nicest people to ever grace this planet. I do know one thing though...I am not a fan of his movies! Yeah, I said it! I'm not a fan. How is this so?
  • He gives black people a voice!
  • He puts black actors in his movies!
  • He's one of the highest paid men in film!
  • Perry is the true definition of the American Story. He pulled himself from the bottom and is now resting at the top!!
How could you not be a fan of such a great story??

Well, let me explain. In no way am I trying to undermine Perry's triumphant story. He came from the bottom achieved greatness. That is commendable in its own right, I'm not trying to take anything away from that. And from what I gather he partakes in philanthropy giving money to some worthy causes. That's wondiferous!!

With ALL of that being said I still don't like his movies!! I'm over his generic plots and over-used jokes. There are only so many times my heart can bleed for the woman done wrong by her man and the children growing up in a single parent home. Not to dismiss those issues I have have experiences with both BUT that still doesn't mean that EVERY SINGLE movie has to tell that story! Come on now there has to be another story to tell. Every black person didn't grow up in "The Hood" or struggle to make it. Every woman hasn't been in an abusive or dysfunctional relationship. It would just be refreshing if he told a different story. Talk about the teenage black child who grew up in a middle class family who attended predominately white schools and struggles with identity issues. I would go see that one!! I lived that life!! There are just so many stories out that it's annoying that the same ones are always the plot to his movies.

While on the subject of over-used let's mention the actors!! I know that there is a shortage of black actors in Hollywood. Which means Tyler Perry has a wonderful opportunity to grant new black actors an opportunity. I know there has to be at least one household name in a film for it to really garner any real attention but that means there are a plethora of other roles in which an up-and-come actor could be cast. I'm not saying every single movie has to contain a slew of new actors I would be content with just one! In every movie to give one actor the chance to be noticed would be amazing!!

Oh, and then there's this Madea business...I mean...it's just not that funny!! I'm over and I do mean OVER men dressing up as overweight matriarchal characters for a laugh. Why couldn't Tyler Perry or better yet an actual woman drop that same knowledge on people?? Would it not have the same affect?

Granted these are just my opinions!!! How I feel, me, myself personally (isn't that a redundant statement?)

Could you Speak up? I can't hear you.

I have always had difficulty standing up for myself or voicing my voice as the young folks say. Speaking my mind and expressing my thoughts and ideas terrifies me. I'm not confident in my opinions and often worry that I'm wrong. These thoughts are only heightened by my ever present anxiety. I'm constantly overthinking and concerned that no one wants to hear what I have to say. To me, my thoughts don't matter to anyone other than myself. My voice often shakes and gets quiet when I'm trying to express myself. I am either worried that my opinions will harm/offend or will go unnoticed. There are several moments over the course of my life where I regret not speaking up or saying something that was on my mind. There is a constant internal struggle that happens every time I faced with a moment to express myself. More often than not, I end up silencing myself. Which I can openly admit has done nothing for me.  All I ended up with was a nagging regret that I should have sa...

You Passed

Remember when I said that I was going to be more diligent about posting and keeping everyone updated on what was happening? Yeah, I don't remember that either. As of September 5, 2017, I am officially a PhD Candidate. That means that I sufficiently convinced my three person committee (all women might I add) that I know what I'm talking about and am somehow capable of writing a dissertation. This a HUGE deal. Anyone who has gone through, started or completed any amount of work towards a doctorate knows just how stressful this portion of the program is. There are actually no words that will sufficiently explain how large this achievement is. *As you can tell, this post is LATE. And I do mean late. I've been a candidate for months now. Forgive me.*

You're A Non-Mother F*cking Factor!

For those who don't get the reference in the title, let me introduce to you Evelyn Lozada!  I know 'reality television' is the farthest thing from reality but this is by far one of my favorite 'reality' TV moments. It summed up her thoughts and feelings so concisely . It was a perpetual mood that I aspired to for a long time. I know the next question any logical person would pose is, why? Why would this be a perpetual mood I wanted to attain? For years I have lived in my head, afraid of my own voice and sharing my thoughts and opinions. I envied those that could "pop off" and voice their voice. I wanted to be able to say what I needed to say, how I wanted to say it, and without remorse. As I've continued to grow, I have learned that this attitude is not what communication is about. Being able to dismiss everyone around you and say everything the way you want to say it is not effective.  "Cussing everyone out is not self care...
